Watery Mountain Values Part I: We Care About People

At Watery Mountain Essentials we care about people, animals, and the planet.  You’ll find this phrase on most of our products, but what does it mean?

Actions speak louder than words, so in this three-part series we’ll take a look at how caring about people, animals, and the planet is a fundamental part of what we do.

People are truly our greatest asset, so we’ll start with all of the people who are an important part of our business and our lives.

Our suppliers

We believe in supporting small business.  With just one exception – the US-based manufacturer of our lotion bottles – we purchase our ingredients, equipment and packaging supplies from small businesses in the United States and Canada.  Almost all these businesses are owned and operated by women entrepreneurs.  The rest are family-owned businesses, like ours.

Our process

We have no employees, so our small family is responsible for everything involved in creating, crafting, packaging, and marketing our products.  Doris is the formulator who creates the “recipes” for our products, orders ingredients, and manages our website.  Her husband, Kirk, is our logistics guy.  He makes sure we have everything we need at events and gets us set up and looking good.  He’s also responsible for making many of our displays.  Doris’ mother, Lois, keeps us organized by making sure our storeroom is tidy and the ingredients are labeled.  We all pitch in to make and package the products.  Everything you buy has been measured, stirred, poured, and labeled by one of us.

Our customers

Customers are the most important part of any business and we treat you with the respect and honesty you deserve.  You might be surprised to learn that many companies – including some rather big names – don’t list all their ingredients on their labels.  We believe this practice is not only unethical, it’s bad business.  If you’re ashamed to list an ingredient on the bottle, you shouldn’t even consider putting it in the bottle!

You’ll find all our ingredients listed on our packaging.  Whenever possible we use common names, for example, Coconut Oil rather than Cocos Nucifera Oil and Sea Buckthorn Extract rather than Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract.  If you have a question about any of our ingredients, just ask!  We’re proud of our ingredients and the time that goes into researching and choosing them.

We care about people

From our suppliers to our customers, we take pride in our relationships.  Not only is this business a great way for us to spend time together, working as a family allows us to carefully control the quality of everything we make.  Watery Mountain Essentials products are made by our family for yours!
